Well I have started! New Years day saw me out and about for my first wander to kick off my “Walk 1000 Miles” in 2015 challenge, a short local walk in the company of my eldest son Luke before he heads back to university. Local because we needed to be home in time for an all the trimmings new years day dinner!
Only 4.5miles, the walk took us along part of the High Peak Trail to Black Rocks and onto the first trig point for 2015 at the communications mast overlooking Bolehill. The snow that had fallen on boxing Day had started to melt somewhat, leaving stubborn icy patches and wet, slippery mud making descending some paths very entertaining indeed, but we made it down safely and arrived back home in time for roast chicken dinner with the family!
Early morning Workout Walks
I call these my workout walks purely because at 6.00am that is all they really are. They do not offer up much in the way of enjoyment really, not till the lighter mornings arrive anyway! Amounting at this early stage to about 2.5miles, the early mornings require willpower and a certain amount of stupidity to undertake them. That said I have so far managed only 7 out of 18 not including New Years day or last Sundays epic 11.5 mile walk. But still I am behind schedule a little, only managing 17 miles. I am looking to improve on this this coming week making special effort not to miss a single morning before work!
I do not want to just concentrate on walking a couple of miles in the early mornings, there has to be a few epic, more challenging walks as well! Sunday 11th January I embarked on my first major walk of the year, an 11.5mile tour through Dovedale and a few neighbouring dales. A medium/hard route made difficult by the height gain, muddy climbs, muddy descents and a navigational error.
